Appliqué Lessons

At our April 5, 2022 meeting, Leslie and DiAnne share tips, tricks and techniques on how to appliqué.

Here are the quick guides and some of close up photos to go along with the printouts and hyperlinks. Printouts can be found in the Documents section of the website.

Fusible Web Appliqué Demonstrated by DiAnne Hill Fusible web applique, sometimes called iron-on applique, eliminates the need for seam allowances. Instead, a thin sheet of sticky webbing is pressed onto the reverse side of the finished size of shapes. When the shapes are ready they are pressed to the background, sticky side down, using a hot iron. It's best to hand or machine sew the edges of fusible web shapes to the background to keep them from curling away from the fabric, even if the brand you choose says that stitches aren't necessary.

Both of the ladies made a great presentation!

Scrap Quilts

Submitted by Carol Rogan

After Judy's presentation on Scrap Management at November's meeting, I showed two scrap quilt tops that I have sewn from 2"x3.5" rectangles from the book "Successful Scrap Quilts'. The attendees requested pictures of the quilts as well as the name of the book and author. I have attached pictures of the quilt tops as well as a couple pictures of the book.

Here are 2 more scrap quilt ideas submitted by Judy Aitken.

It is truly amazing what can be created when small pieces of fabric are combined into a quilt and how incredibly beautiful.

Ideas from the March Sewcial

Good day everyone. We talked about several interesting ideas during our March Sewcial. Here is a thread where you can contribute your Sewcial ideas to share. To start the ball rolling, here are a couple of ideas that came out during the Sewcial.

First of all, Carol C offered this video on joining QAYG (Quilt as You Go) blocks.

Secondly, Darlene L shared the wine tote pattern which uses scraps. Darlene also recommends, "For the last wine bags I made, I traced the bottle pattern on light, non-fusible interfacing as I found it easier to work with than tissue paper and I liked the extra stiffness it gave the final product." Here is a link to the pattern, compliments of Darlene: http://wix.to/jUCmB7g You can also find the wine tote pattern in the 'Documents' section of our website, under the folder "Bags".
