Free Motion + Ruler Work = New Skills & Finished Quilts!

Updated: Oct 6, 2023

Wow. What a day we had! Our May meeting was not our normal afternoon event. Deb Morrissey brought her skill and her talent for teaching to our Nanoose Quilters Group for an all day workshop. We were so focused on the sewing that we did not even get to do the "Show and Tell" part of the program. That just means more "Show and Tell" for next time.

We started our morning with the basics of free motion quilting and learned how to couple that with simple ruler work to make some very stunning quilts. And yes. A quilt does not have to be perfect to be beautiful. It just has to be finished.

My three big take-aways are:

  1. Don't forget your machine quilting gloves!

  2. You can free motion quilt with your ruler foot on your sewing machine.

  3. Practice.

I hope that everyone had as much fun as I did. A huge thank you goes out to DiAnne who coordinated with our instructor and the Church Hall to make this happen.

I only captured a few photos of the day. I hope that you can add some of your own photos in the Threads or in the comments below.

Cheers,

Carolyn
