3rd Edition: Pinwheel and Half Pinwheel Blocks

Here is the much anticipated 3rd edition of our very own Block of the Month project. This time, we are going to make a Pinwheel block, and because we will have already done half of the work required for the next block, we decided to do this one as well - the Half Pinwheel block! Just like last month, we are going to combine several months from the original instructions provided by Krista Zaleski, but I'm sure you will find that this just makes sense. Nancy McDonald was keen enough to make a test run of these blocks, so we also include her fabulous work to further amplify the original instructions and give you some additional insights.

Lastly, as I promised last month, I'm offering you an alternate Pinwheel block that has the ribbons actually line up. This is because some of us did not like the staggered look of the original ribbons, so if you decide you'd like to change it up a bit, feel free to use this alternate design, which I include below.
OK, and now on to the instructions.
